Switching off IPv4

Due to the future cost of IPv4 in AWS, it was finally time to disable IPv4 for this blog.
The need for IPv4 when setting up 2022 was based on my misconception that I would only receive a static IP address if I reserved a static IPv4 address. In reality, however, the associated IPv6 address is always static. I don’t think the two years with IPv4 have done any damage either.
The deletion of IPv4 in AWS Lightsail went smoothly. Simply delete the address and you’re done. I also deleted the firewall rules for IPv4.
Deleting the A records on the DNS servers was also self-explanatory and trivial.
When I switched my private Internet connection to fiber optics, I also switched the Fritz!Box to native IPv6 instead of IPv4:

So far it has mostly run smoothly, but some services do have limitations. Unfortunately, RustDesk is no longer running because the public relay server probably only supports IPv4, but then I’ll try it with my own server.
